Ontario HVAC Rebates in 2026
What Ontario homeowners can actually claim this year, what closed, and how the money reaches you. Verified against the official program pages in January 2026.
The Home Renovation Savings Program is the active program
Ontario's Home Renovation Savings Program is delivered by Save on Energy with Enbridge Gas and supported by the Government of Ontario. It is open in 2026 and it is where essentially all residential HVAC incentive money in this province now sits. You qualify if you are an Enbridge Gas customer heating primarily with a natural gas furnace or boiler, or if you are connected to the Ontario electricity grid and heat with electricity, propane, oil or wood. Detached homes, semis, row houses and mobile homes on a permanent foundation are eligible, and where the property is rented the owner has to be the applicant.
There are two paths. The no-assessment path covers heat pumps, thermostats, attic insulation, solar and appliances with no energy audit at all. The assessment path adds envelope work and the heat pump water heater, and it requires a registered energy advisor before and after the job.
What heating and cooling upgrades pay in 2026
These are the HVAC upgrades on the program list. Your amount depends on how the home is heated today.
Ducted or ductless. Paid per ton of rated capacity, on the qualified products list. No energy assessment required.
See the service →The largest incentive in the program. No energy assessment required.
ENERGY STAR certified models. Claim it instantly at checkout or after purchase.

See the service →There is no rebate for replacing a gas furnace or boiler with another gas unit. A furnace or boiler only determines which heat pump rate you qualify for. Envelope upgrades such as insulation, windows and air sealing are also rebated through the assessment path, and completing three or more upgrades adds a $500 bundle bonus.

Maximum program amounts for the upgrades selected. Heat pump rebates are paid per ton of rated capacity, so your actual amount depends on the sizing and the qualified model installed. Terms and eligibility are set by the Home Renovation Savings Program.
What closed, and what it means
- Canada Greener Homes Grant: closed to new applications in February 2024, with a final documentation deadline of December 31, 2025. Nationally it paid out about $1.8 billion across roughly 409,000 completed retrofits at an average grant of $4,430.
- Canada Greener Homes Loan: the interest-free loan portal closed on October 2, 2025 with funding fully committed. Approved borrowers keep their original terms, but there is no new intake.
- Enbridge Home Efficiency Rebate Plus: paused to new applicants in January 2024 and superseded by the Home Renovation Savings Program. If you see older HER+ figures quoted anywhere, including on legacy pages, treat them as out of date.
How to claim, step by step
- 1Check the pathHeat pump, thermostat, attic insulation, solar or appliances go through the no-assessment path. Envelope work or a heat pump water heater needs the assessment path.
- 2Book the advisor if neededApply through the program, choose a service organization from the list you receive, and complete the pre-retrofit assessment before any work starts.
- 3Get the equipment rightThe model has to be on the qualified products list. We confirm this before you approve a quote, because a near-identical model number can be ineligible.
- 4Complete the workThe assessment path requires at least two qualifying upgrades. Three or more adds the $500 bundle bonus.
- 5Submit and get paidAfter the follow-up assessment and document review, payment lands in about 30 days by e-transfer or 60 days by cheque.
