About our heat pump repair service

A heat pump that stops heating is not the same repair as a furnace. The common faults here are defrost boards that stop cycling after a wet snowfall, reversing valves that stick between modes, low charge from a lineset joint, and outdoor units buried by drifting so the coil can never shed ice. Our refrigeration-certified technicians carry the gauges, the parts, and the manufacturer diagnostics for the major cold-climate brands.

Most of the heat pump repairs we run are on units installed in the last five years, and the geography shows up in the fault codes. Shoreline installs around Lefroy, Gilford, and Big Bay Point corrode at the coil and the disconnect long before the compressor is tired. Snowbelt properties toward Horseshoe Valley and Moonstone ice up because the unit was set too low to the ground for local drift depth, so the defrost cycle never gets ahead of the weather. Rural propane hybrids around Cookstown and Beeton usually turn out to be a balance point left at the installer default rather than a hardware failure at all.

Rebates: qualifying equipment can draw Ontario incentives and federal financing, and we prepare the paperwork with your quote. See current Ontario HVAC rebates.

Where we provide heat pump repair

Innisfil is home base, and our trucks run the same routes daily across Simcoe County and north York Region.

  • Barrie In Barrie the calls concentrate in the south end, where Painswick, Ardagh and Holly subdivisions are running the original builder furnaces past their fifteenth winter.
  • Bradford West Gwillimbury Bradford and Bond Head homes back onto the Holland Marsh, and the damp cold there is unforgiving on a system that was never balanced for the ductwork it feeds.
  • Essa Angus, Baxter and the CFB Borden housing sit on open ground where wind-driven snow buries side-wall vents, which is the single most common cause of a no-heat lockout out there.
  • East Gwillimbury Holland Landing, Sharon and Queensville have grown fast, so most of what we service there is newer high-efficiency equipment needing commissioning corrections rather than replacement.
  • Springwater Midhurst, Elmvale and the Snow Valley custom builds are in the snowbelt, where a heating system has to hold a design temperature several degrees colder than Barrie's.
  • Newmarket Newmarket's older Gorham and Glenway neighbourhoods still hold plenty of mid-efficiency equipment that is cheaper to replace than to keep feeding gas.
  • Oro-Medonte Many Oro-Medonte and Horseshoe Valley properties are off the gas main entirely, so heating decisions there weigh propane cost against a heat pump conversion.
  • New Tecumseth Alliston, Beeton and Tottenham see steady demand around the Honda plant shift schedule, and we book those calls early morning or evening to suit it.

Frequently asked questions

Why is my heat pump covered in ice?
Some frost is normal in winter. A unit that stays iced through a full cycle has a defrost problem: a failed sensor, a stuck reversing valve, or a board that is not initiating the cycle. Drifted snow blocking airflow around the coil causes the same symptom and is worth clearing before you call.
Is it worth repairing an older heat pump?
Under about ten years old, almost always. Past that, if the compressor or the inverter board has failed, we will show you the repair and replacement numbers side by side, including any rebate that applies to a new cold-climate unit.
